Sophia Mackey

Sophia has always dreamt of honing her skills in multiple art forms, and is now fortunate to officially be combining her love of music, dance, and teaching. Sophia has recently completed her post-secondary studies at Canada’s National Ballet School, graduating as Valedictorian with distinction from their Teacher Training program. There, she was honoured with both the Carole Chadwick and the Sylvia McFee Awards for teaching.

Sophia has recently been granted her Registered Teaching Status with the Royal Academy of Dance, as well as her Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Sophia grew up studying ballet, modern, jazz, tap, highland, national, and musical theatre. She was awarded her Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD) having obtained her advanced two RAD examination, and has further been awarded her advanced one Cecchetti, advanced two ISTD modern and national, her ISTD jazz examinations, and a handful of ISTD tap exams.

Sophia has had the privilege of teaching at esteemed institutions such as Canada’s National Ballet School, the Canadian Children’s Opera Company, Bravo Academy for the Performing Arts, the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Triple Threat Theatre, and Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement. She is particularly thrilled to be coming back to Lindsay to teach at her home studio, the Lindsay Dance Studio.

Sophia is also an accomplished musician, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours, from the University of Toronto, under the tutelage of Wendy Nielsen. She has had the opportunity to travel to New York City to participate in the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s intensive program, as well as sing at Lincoln Centre. Additionally, she has sung in Italy as part of the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy Academy Program, and has participated in numerous summer training programs, including St. Andrew’s Vocal Technique Workshop and Opera NUOVA.

Some of her recent theatre credits include: Miss Honey in Matilda, the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cinderella in Into the Woods, Grace in Annie, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and was a Co-Headliner in the production FOUND.

Sophia is excited to join the talented staff and students at the Lindsay Dance Studio this year.
